Thursday marks an important departure for the monthly lunch group, Mange tout.  They are meeting at the lake at Etignac (also spelled Etagnac) at 12:30.

For those intending to go you need to take all your own food and drink, but no doubt you will wish and be able to share with others. You will be able to buy chips at the little cafe by the lake.

Afterwards you can relax by the lake and after a suitable time go swimming.

Quiz night at Viewpoint House, Availles Limouzine, 8th July at 7pm.  Teams of four people, 5 euros per person, includes entry fee, sandwiches and home-made cakes. 

Winning team each get a bottle of wine, loosers get a booby prize.

The next opportunity to meet others in the convivial environment of Grange d'Olga will happen on the 26th June at Grange d'Olga, from 10 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon.

You can bring along your food to eat and to share and see the products of local artisans and participate in a class for basket work.

The Indian festival in Luchapt will take place between the 22nd and 31 July. The full programme can be downloaded from the attachment below.

The informal motorcycle club based at the L'Eau Vive in St Germain de Confolens had a memorial run on the 5th May to commemorate the life of Jack Taylor.

A meeting was held in Availles Limouzine to introduce the idea of exchanging services on a non-monetary basis. The meeting was organised by the MJC of L'Isle Jourdain.

Milk deliveries have finished many years ago, but Availles Limouzine and the surrounding area has an egg and honey home delivery service run by Guillaume and Nathalie Van Beers.

Annie and Alan Wright were married at the Mairie in Hiesse on Saturday afternoon, we all wish them all the best.

The reservation for the next lunch at 12 for 12.30 on 31st March is at Cafe Clemence in Chabenais. This restaurant is popular with the group and numbers are restricted, so please reserve early so that you will not be disappointed.

 Today I heard the sound of hundreds of cranes circling over our house in their migration north. Spring can not be far behind.

 

At the annual general meeting of ALPA, the past year's events were reviewed with satisfaction.  1800 people attended the mini-festival with its theme of the sea and guest of honour Isabelle Autissier.

In a recent article I said that there was strong hope that a grocery shop would open in Abzac this year.  This has been confirmed in the Mayor's wishes and he has also given a name of the new proprietaire and a date.

Mrs Parsons, who currently runs the bric-a-brac shop in Abzac will take over the premises and open both as a grocery and sell bread during March. She will also open a tea room to cater for both visitors to Abzac and the locals.

Over a period of several years Sheilah Plumley has supported a number of initiatives.  The best known are the regular book swaps and eating out with Mange Tout.

Abzac has the problems of many small villages in France - it is losing its heart.  After long attrition the bar closed, about ten years ago. This left it with only the well known garage, Salomon's run by Jean-Paul.

It was a little like an indoor market, but with the traders that you associate with the outdoor markets. The main difference being that there were far more traders than punters.

Few of us thought that we would enjoy a walk with views last Tuesday (Jan 25) as the morning was very gloomy and murky. However by late lunchtime the sky had cleared somewhat and we enjoyed a pleasant afternoon with no bitterly cold easterly wind to freeze our fingers and noses.
