Picnic at Etignac

Thursday marks an important departure for the monthly lunch group, Mange tout.  They are meeting at the lake at Etignac (also spelled Etagnac) at 12:30.

For those intending to go you need to take all your own food and drink, but no doubt you will wish and be able to share with others. You will be able to buy chips at the little cafe by the lake.

Afterwards you can relax by the lake and after a suitable time go swimming.

Entertainment, food and a warm welcome

Teresa Harris provides a warm welcome to all who stop at Viewpoint House, Chez Blet, Availles Limouzine for meals or to stay the night at her Chambre d'Hotes.

In 2004 Teresa and Bob Harris arrived with their daughter Gabby.  They fell in love with the house at the viewpoint at Chez Blet, especially its marvellous views over the Vienne river and the surrounding countryside.  Needless to say they quickly named it Viewpoint House.  It is the house on the right just when you reach the top of the hill leaving Availles Limouzine in the direction of L'Isle Jourdain. They have renovated the house turning it into a confortable family house and a Chambre d'Hotes run by Teresa.  Bob has a garden maintenance business.

Visiting all 57 cemeteries in Charentes where British service men are buried.

Two members of the Royal British Legion will visit all 57 Charentais cemeteries having British war graves.

On Wednesday 11th May, two members of the Royal British Legion arrive in our area to take part in a1000  kilometre cycle ride to visit the 57 cemeteries in the Charente area which house British military graves.  They are leaving Charroux at 11am, arriving in Hiesse at 12 ish.  They hope to meet the Mayor of each village for photographs, etc., a swift repas and on to Brillac and the next cemetery containing a Commonwealth war grave.

The group's members exchange services without money changing hands.  However when giving a service a number of 'macarons' are credited to the account of the giver and debited from the account of the receiver.

What is a SEList

A meeting was held in Availles Limouzine to introduce the idea of exchanging services on a non-monetary basis. The meeting was organised by the MJC of L'Isle Jourdain.

We saw a small announcement in the local newspaper, unfortunately not in the Calijournal, about a meeting to be held in Availles Limouzine.  It was not very clear as to what it was all about but as it mentioned food we decided to go.

The meeting got off to a bad start as people arrived at the Salle de Fetes and milled about for half an hour, then eventually headed off down to the picnic area near the camp ground.

Milk deliveries have finished many years ago, but Availles Limouzine and the surrounding area has an egg and honey home delivery service run by Guillaume and Nathalie Van Beers.

They live at Chez Blet on the left going from Availles towards L'Isle Jourdain, just at the top of the hill leaving the river valley, opposite Viewpoint house. Their farm is small by Agribusiness standards but they have developed a "red label" egg business which can compete on quality with the larger enterprises.

Quiz night

This year there will be course on the fishing the English way.  This will be given at the Fishing School

There will be the French Championship on 6 & 7 August and the French Cup for fishing using lead weights.

There will be a Spring Fair in the streets of Availles-Limouzine again this year on Easter Monday.

If you would like to have a stall at this event (eg bric a brac, arts and crafts etc) please contact the Mairie. 

You pay a small deposit (probably 10€ ) which is refunded on the day provided that you turn up. 

The event will run all day.

MANGE TOUT lunch group is on the last Thursday of each month. The group meets in various restaurants in the Charente region.

The object of the group is the integration of foreigners and French people. All nationalities are invited. French people are especially welcome whether they speak English or not. Various activities are associated with the group such as – In the summer a group picnic, later in the year a Christmas party, also a Halloween party.
